Do I have to watch the previous 3 movies to be caught up?

Lex • 2 years ago

Yes
First explained it's world building and introduction
Second was Civil wars
If you already watched the classic LOGH, then there's not really needed

strayfe • 2 years ago

Thanks. I'll watch the movies. I only partially completely the original.

Nikola Nikolov • 2 years ago

same here thou i will probably rewatch the original till this season kind of gets more episodes out as im definitly in the mood for a galactic epic and this type of series really needs you to be in a mood for ^_^

leU • 2 years ago

do i need to watch the series (2019) ? or can i go straight to the movies?

Brabo Reader • 2 years ago

You have to watch according to production order: Kaikou series first, then the Seiran OVAs.

DuckAllMigthy • 2 years ago

You can pretty much just watch the 2019 anime, it starts the story and tells you everything you need to know. Still one of the very best remakes ever. The OG set the standard for grand-scale tactical space combat anime back in the day and was probably the best space anime there was, this lives up to it in all ways, and makes it even better with newer animation techniques and a better flow of events, in the sense of it follows the same story, but in a more modern way.

Poor Attenborough already getting thrown into deep shit while on patrol with a bunch of new recruits. And it sounds like the Empire thinks they're currently up against Yang Wen-li who's actually just sleeping on a bench when he first received the news about the encounter.

Looks like Julian had a hard time in the academy with his instructor Bateman giving him a hard time just because Yang decided to send his buddy back home and demoted him after seeing the guy beat on new recruits that can't fight back.

This show so far has been mostly focused on naval combat with ships mainly exchanging volleys so its nice that we got more focus on the smaller fighters doing dogfights this episode with Julian. Also very impressive for Julian to take down two Walkures and a cruiser on his first campaign. He did get lucky with the cruiser though since he manage to fly by one while it was about to fire their missiles.

What a line to end the episode on. Are you telling me he's only fifteen!? I thought Julian was a lot older than at least seventeen or eighteen. But it really adds to the weight of the situation knowing how young he is as well as the other recruits that died during that battle.

It's so fucking good to have this show back! Although I think I'll have to do a bit of a rewatch since it's literally been 3 years since DNT Second. I still remember some of the basics but I think I need a refresher on the current state of politics in their world.

IT'S BACKKK!!!

NetroLancer • 2 years ago

I've been so hyped for the 3rd season.

Shermannizer • 2 years ago

omg its back

Amano erika. • 2 years ago

In the year UC 798, Julian Mintz was about to turn 16 years old.

Fuck, talk about a heavy line to end the episode on.

I didn't realize how much I'd missed Die Neue These, but I'm super glad we're getting more episodes.

Feh. Even if that blonde asshole is the true MC, Yang Wen-li will always be MY Admiral.

Nan Demo K(Nai)ves • 2 years ago

Bateman's death flag was clearly very much raised but I was thinking he'd be at least shown covering for the new recruits. There were a lot of deaths though, I can understand why Peter was even more shaken up, he seemed to be lagging behind compared to his comrades and yet he returned safely, it would be hard to believe.

Julian taking out a cruise ship because he saw them about to shoot missiles was really smart of him and lucky that he was there at the right timing. Nice to see Yang relieved upon hearing Julian being safe, he has own position but he still is a father lol.

Wolfgang • 2 years ago

Impressive, very nice. Let's see Paul Allen's death flag.

Amano erika. • 2 years ago

Even though I watched the OVA, I'm pretty interested to see how DNT covers the "death star" arc.

The fight scenes were cool but the last scene with Julian really brings us back to how it actually is for the pilots fighting and how they're affected, some young as they are. All in all, good episode.

Owl • 2 years ago

I liked the filler content about the basic course of Julian, also why this is listed as a movie?

ERIK LEROUGEUH • 2 years ago

season3 is 24episode,
but in japan they decided to go ahead on the merchandizing and to allow people to watch the entire season compacted in 3 100+minutes movie at movie theater, released 4th march 1st april 13th may....so its a good way to get money for the license.
the way japan do merchandising is a whole universe, not sure we can handle it.

Zinco 2000 • 2 years ago

What i never heard about this Fantastic i been dying to see the continuation if this anime

NetroLancer • 2 years ago

Julian did well on his first battle. Like the dynamic we got to see between the instructor's and recruits, something we didn't see much in the original.

ERIK LEROUGEUH • 2 years ago

yeah they didnt just reskin the anime, but give a vibe to each episode and character even if they kept on silence many things who happened...because original anime were 100episodes and derivated serie have 50episodes too, the objective isnt to spam us of episode. but to allow new generation to discover the serie, and old generation to sip a good drink in front of it.

Posea Lear Netipel • 2 years ago

excellent star wars human empire

Robert • 2 years ago

RIP Bateman

Neko • 2 years ago

Yang as a proud father and relieved that his boy survived his 1st battle
Meanwhile as for Julian, this will be a test not only for his talent but rather his mental strength
and ngl the OST of this anime always hits my kokoro, a pleasure to hear

What an awesome surprise I am so watching this tomorrow after work!!! So excited!!

Ethan_Ninja • 1 year ago

I guess listening & obeying orders of your commander is important regardless if you have nearly reached the victory of the battle.
On order remains an order until your leader decides to give another one.
RIP to both sides, you fought bravely in the war!!🔥🔥

Anime007 • 1 year ago

I'm a late adapter of this series so it's kind of funny seeing all these comments about how long guys had to wait for this season :) It's an awesome anime though and I picked it out of pure luck. However, the story line is just so realistic and characters have so much depth that I definitely think this will end up as one of my favorites.

Pugs-kun • 1 year ago

Rather crazy to think that they're recruiting child soldiers now, tho unfortunately its a reality to us too, that being in extremist militant groups.

De Ains Sudora • 2 years ago

weird. Idk why are they giving ground combat training to space pilots. If their crafts got shot down knowing cqc won't increase their odd of survival. And if they really are running short on pilots, shouldn't they be focusing on just teaching the pilots essential piloting skills?

Xavia • 2 years ago

If you watched the previous season and movie, you will notice that there are times where they raid the ships, and in turn get raided. The missions vary and if they were captured as hostages they need to know self defense, after all they are soldiers so that is the basic training that they give alongside the technical pilot fighting skills.
